Tips for Cooking Baked Potato Without Baking Baking potatoes can take up to an hour, which is a long time when you are pressed. However, cooking a baked potato in the microwave cuts this time down drastically and allows you to enjoy a healthy and nutritious side dish with little fuss. Cooking a potato in the microwave would mean it is not a baked potato but rather a micro’d potato. No matter what you call it, this is a quick way to fix a delicious side dish. Of course, don’t forget to clean your potato well before putting it in the microwave. Start by rinsing and scrubbing off any dirt. Examine carefully for any eyes and blemishes and remove the imperfections. Wrap the potato tightly in plastic food wrap and then using the prongs of a fork, poke holes into the potato in different spots. The fork punctures will allow the potato breathe and to cook a little faster. They will also keep the potato from exploding (making a mess) in the microwave. The cooking time may vary depending on the microwave and the size of the baked potato. The average time for a baked potato in the microwave will be about 8 minutes. Once the potato has cooked, it is a good idea to let it cool before removing it from the microwave oven and placing on a plate. Slit it lengthwise down the center, then spread it out over the plate and place several tabs of butter in the center then re-cook for about 40 seconds in the microwave and allow the butter to melt. Smother with the Encore Woodland Potato Topper Mix and throw on your favourite potato toppers to complete this delicious side dish!
